Black Horchata

Horchata is a very popular drink in Guatemala, as well as in other regions of Central America. It is delicious and refreshing!

It has its roots in the pre-Hispanic history of the country, where it was prepared with the seed of jicaro and cacao.

This traditional drink has evolved over the years, adopting new ingredients and preparation techniques.

Ingredients

2 liters of Water

½ pound of Rice

½ pound of Pumpkin seeds (previously toasted)

¼ pound of Sesame seeds (previously toasted)

1 Cinnamon stick

1 cup of Milk

Sugar

Preparation

Step 1 : To prepare this refreshing drink, first wash the rice and soak it in water for about 5 hours.

Step 2 : Then, blend the rice with water, pumpkin seeds, and toasted sesame seeds.

Step 3 : Strain the mixture with a sieve and add sugar and ice to taste.

Step 4 : Optionally, you can add a cup of milk to make it creamier.

Step 5 : Ideal for enjoying on hot days!
