A bit of its history

It is believed that Chow Mein was created by Chinese workers who migrated to the United States in the 19th century to work in mines and railroads.

The recipe was adapted to local ingredients and became popular as a quick and economical meal.

In Guatemala, this dish was introduced in the early 20th century when the first Chinese immigrants arrived in the country.

Nowadays, it is a very popular street food in the country, especially in the capital city and local markets.

It is often sold by street vendors and served in generous portions at affordable prices.

Preparation tips

First, it is recommended to use egg noodles or Chinese noodles, which can be found in specialty stores or the Asian food section of the supermarket.

It is also important to cut the vegetables into small, uniform pieces so they cook evenly and retain their crunchiness.

Additionally, it’s advisable to cook the meat separately and add it at the end to prevent overcooking and loss of flavor.

Finally, avoid overcrowding the pan with too many ingredients, so they can be stir-fried properly and not turn soft. With these tips, you can prepare a delicious meal at home.
