Red Rings

Red Rings are a traditional sweet bread from various Central American countries. In Guatemala, they are also known as Rosquillas and Guatemalan Bizcotelas. They are round and colorful, perfect to enjoy with coffee.

Ingredients

Red Rings

8 cups of Flour

1 ½ cup of Water

2 tablespoons of Ground cinnamon

2 cups of Sugar

3 Eggs

4 tablespoons of Yeast

100 grams of Butter

100 grams of Lard

Edible gel red food coloring

Preparation

Step 1 : For the dough, first mix the flour, yeast, ground cinnamon, and one cup of sugar in a bowl. Then, add the eggs, butter, and lard.

Step 2 : Next, mix everything well at high speed until a soft and sticky dough is achieved.

Step 3 : Knead well inside the bowl until forming a ball. Afterwards, place the dough in a bowl and cover with plastic wrap.

Step 4 : Let the dough rest for at least 30 minutes.

Step 5 : To prepare the red sugar or sweet for the rings, place 1 cup of sugar and edible gel red food coloring on a flat plate.

Step 6 : Mix everything together with a spoon.

Step 7 : Baking and decoration: First, sprinkle a little flour on the flat surface where you will be working. Remove the rested dough ball and make small balls with your hands (bali).

Step 8 : Then, shape them to form small rings. As a decoration, take each ring and sprinkle with the sugar mixture on top.

Step 9 : Grease a metal tray, preheat the oven to 425°F, and bake the rings for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove from the oven and let them cool before enjoying.
